Marble surfaces

Marble is a natural material, soft and porous and it can stain as well as chip, scratch and etch. Etching is what you see when marks are caused by acid action from liquids like red wine, tomato sauce or lemon juice.

Aside from simply cleaning counter top surfaces after each use and wiping down your marble walls and floors, there are a few things you can do to lengthen the life of your marble. Have your marble sealed! Whether polished or honed, you need to have your surfaces sealed at least every six months. It’s not a difficult procedure and you can do it yourself. There is even a spray cleaner that also acts like a sealant, so you can use this product to clean and seal all in one.

Marble is a natural product, so no matter what the application, it will change, age and wear over time. It’s a beautiful natural stone and if you are the type of homeowner who wants the marble to look as it did the day you bought it, maybe marble may simply not be for you.

The Calacatta marble used in this kitchen has prominent gold veins, adding color to the black and white palette. This unit, as well as the entire building, 33 Mackenzie Tower in Melbourne, was designed by architects Callum Fraser and Zahava Elenberg of Elenberg Fraser. The minimalist counter stools were designed by Patricia Urquiola.
